Surfboard Rental Terms & Conditions

Welcome to Surfboard Rental Sumba . By renting a surfboard from us, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

1. General Responsibility

The renter is fully responsible for the surfboard and accessories during the rental period.

Please treat the equipment carefully and avoid unnecessary damage. Surfboards are delicate and expensive equipment, especially in remote locations like Sumba Island where replacement boards and repairs can be difficult and costly.

2. Rental Period

The rental period starts at the agreed pickup or delivery time and ends at the agreed return time.

Late returns may result in additional rental charges.

3. Security Deposit

A refundable security deposit of IDR 500,000 per board may be required at the start of the rental.

The deposit will be refunded once the board has been returned and inspected for damage.

4. Damage Responsibility

The renter is responsible for any damage caused during the rental period, including but not limited to:

  • Dings
  • Cracks
  • Rail damage
  • Fin damage
  • Broken fins or fin boxes
  • Delamination
  • Snapped boards
  • Water damage caused by unrepaired dings

Estimated repair costs:

  • Small ding: IDR 150,000 – 250,000
  • Medium crack or rail damage: IDR 300,000 – 600,000
  • Major damage (snapped nose/tail, broken fin boxes, major delamination, etc.): IDR 700,000+

If the board is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair, the renter may be charged the replacement value of the board.

Minor pressure dents from normal surfing are acceptable.

5. Ding & Repair Policy

Minor dings may be temporarily repaired using UV resin (such as Solarez) if the repair is clean, watertight, and professionally done.

For larger or more serious damage, we recommend using a professional ding repair service. We can recommend trusted repair services in Sumba.

If you prefer not to arrange repairs yourself, please inform us. We can organize the repair and deduct the repair cost from the security deposit.

Please never continue surfing a board with an open ding that takes in water.

6. Deposit Refunds

The security deposit will be refunded after the board is returned and inspected.

Poor-quality, hidden, or unreported repairs may result in additional repair charges.

7. Lost or Stolen Equipment

The renter is responsible for lost or stolen equipment during the rental period.

Please do not leave surfboards unattended at beaches, parking areas, accommodations, or on motorbikes without supervision.

8. Surf Conditions & Skill Level

Surfing involves inherent risks. By renting from us, the renter confirms that they understand the risks associated with surfing, including:

  • Strong currents
  • Sharp reefs
  • Large waves
  • Remote locations
  • Injuries caused by boards or fins

The renter is responsible for choosing surf conditions appropriate for their own skill level.

We are not liable for accidents, injuries, death, or damages occurring during the rental period.

9. Use of Surfboard Racks & Transport

If transporting boards on scooters or motorbikes, the renter is responsible for checking that all straps and racks are properly secured before driving.

Please drive carefully, especially on rough roads, gravel roads, and windy conditions common in Sumba.

Any damage caused during transport remains the responsibility of the renter.

10. Wax

Surf wax is not included unless otherwise agreed.

Most surfers bring their own preferred wax.

11. Deliveries & Pickups

Delivery and pickup services may be available depending on location and schedule.

Additional transport fees may apply for remote areas, airport deliveries, or one-way drop-offs.

Please be on time for pickups and returns.

12. Weather & Wave Conditions

Rental fees are non-refundable due to:

  • Bad weather
  • Poor surf conditions
  • Rain or wind
  • Personal schedule changes
  • Flight delays or cancellations
  • Injuries or illness
  • Unused rental days

Once a board has been reserved and rented out, those dates are blocked for other customers.

13. No Refund Policy

Rental payments are non-refundable once the rental period has started.

We do not provide refunds for early returns or unused rental days.

14. Board Selection

We do our best to provide the requested board model and size. However, due to availability, repairs, or logistics, we may provide a similar alternative board.

15. Liability Waiver

By renting equipment from us, the renter agrees that:

  • Surfing is done entirely at their own risk
  • The renter accepts full responsibility for personal safety
  • We are not liable for injuries, accidents, death, lost belongings, travel disruptions, or third-party damages

16. Acceptance of Terms

By accepting the surfboard rental, making payment, or using the equipment, the renter confirms that they have read and agreed to these rental terms and conditions.
